Dr. Marvin L. Graves of Houston was one of the leading physicians and Methodist laymen in Texas. A professor of medicine at the University of Texas Medical College at Galveston, Dr. Graves was actively involved with many professional associations including serving as president of the Texas Medical Association in 1914. He was a fellow of the American College of Physicians as well as a member of the American Medical Association. He was prominently active in the work of the Methodist church, serving as a delegate to the ecumenical conference at London in 1921. In recognition of his contributions to medicine and Methodism, SMU was honored to confer upon Marvin L. Graves the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa.
